T065Bs with T037A1 KELȽOLEMEĆEN

July 16, 2025

On July 16 our team left the dock after lunch and headed out for an afternoon of BRUVS sampling. On our way to the first BRUVS site, we got notice of a group of KELȽOLEMEĆEN in Swanson channel. Conveniently, we were just south of ȽO,LEĆEN (Moresby Isl.) and altered course to identify the whales. When we arrived, there were no vessels following. We stayed about 1 km away as the whales were travelling with very long dives. Before long, whale waters showed up, luckily the whales had headed for the vessel restricted zone for a moment of distance from the boats. Not long after the first whale watching vessel arrived, more moved in. These whales were lucky with the presence of DFO whale protection unit, Parks Canada, and Washing Department of Fish and Wildlife, all vessels kept their distance. This group was identified as the T065Bs and T037A1.

All photos are taken with a 200-600 zoom lens.
