ḰENES (Humpback) at S,DÁYES (Pender Island)
May 5, 2026
On May 5, our team conducted our regular monitoring in Zone 1 around Pender Island (S,DÁYES). After several hours searching for reported humpback activity, we were finally able to capture enough photos to confirm the whale’s identity as Zig Zag.
Zig Zag spent the morning cruising along the Pender Island bluffs, moving back and forth in a steady, almost rhythmic pattern. Much of our day had been spent trying to determine which humpback had returned to the Salish Sea, so confirming Zig Zag’s identity was a rewarding moment. With that, the team wrapped up for the day.
All photos are taken with a 200-600 zoom lens.
