Humpbacks in the Saanich Inlet

November 24, 2025

While working in the office, our team heard a report of humpback whales in the Saanich Inlet. We went down to the water to investigate and saw two perfect flukes about 1km away from us! We ran back to the office to grab our cameras and drove further north in hopes of catching them again. We watched as they passed Mill Bay Marina. They were approximately 3km away from us on shore on the other side of the inlet and as such we could not obtain ideal identification photos. One whale is possibly Bullet and the other is still unknown. These whales were vessel free as they travelled north to Satellite Channel. Once they passed us we headed back to the office to finish our computer work.

All photos are taken with a 200-600 zoom lens.
