QENTOL,YEN featured in an article by The Source

The QENTOL,YEN / W̱SÁNEĆ Marine Guardians have recently been featured in an article in the newspaper The Source. The article highlights the teams efforts to give the endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales a fighting chance.

The endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales (SRKW) face many threats related to prey availability, noise disturbance, vessel traffic, and contamination. With only 75 individuals left, the health and recovery of this species is critical for the health of the marine ecosystem.

To combat some of these challenges, Marine Guardian groups like QENTOL, YEN have been working to better understand and find solutions to protect the KELŁOLEMEĆEN (Killer Whales), their “relatives of the deep”. Through habitat, compliance, and baseline monitoring, QENTOLY, YEN has been collecting data on marine mammals, vessel traffic, salmon abundance, and stream health while integrating W̱SÁNEĆ cultural preservation and collaboration with researchers to create positive change for the SRKW.
