KELŁOLEMEĆEN (Killer Whales) T037As

August 12, 2025

After seeing the T109As in the Saanich Inlet on the morning of August 12, our team encountered the T037As in the San Juans after reports of a large group of whale watching vessels. Our team monitored compliance of marine mammal laws as these whales had approximately 15 vessels with them for hours, including pleasure craft vessels as they transited through Roche harbour. We flew our whale flag, honked our horn, and radio’d other vessels to alert them of the presence of the whales. It was an exhausting day to see our marine relatives surrounded by so many vessels for many hours and know they must be experiencing the negative impacts of acoustic pollution. These whales were identified as the T037As, A deceased harbour porpoise was observed with the whales, and it’s possible their hunt was interrupted by vessels that were closer than distance restrictions. We continue to fight for stronger laws for vessels around whales in the hopes of improving quality of life for our relatives of the deep.
