Tempest (right) with whale watching presence, May 14

On May 13, 2025 our team observed a humpback whale travelling solo at YEUWE (Wallace point) on S,DÁYES (Pender Island). After avoiding some vessel traffic exiting Bedwell Harbour, this whale continued very close to shore into the Pender ISZ, vessel free. We took identification photos and left it alone. This whale has been ID’d as Tempest.

On May 14, 2025 we once again observed Tempest, this time travelling Northwest behind ȾXENNI (Waldron Island) in so-called Washington. We monitored whale watching activity and once this whale was vessel free, we too departed. We few our whale flag to notify vessels of Tempest’s presence in the channel.

All photos are taken with a 200-600 zoom lens.
