ḰENES at Otter Bay (near SKÁEṮEM)

May 26, 2026

On May 27 we were travelling North in Swanson Channel to avoid high winds in the Strait of Georgia when we saw the signature blow of a humpback whale. We observed the whale as it travelled the tide line towards shore near SKÁEṮEM and continued travelling North. We alerted BC ferries to the presence of this whale as the ferry was at berth in Otter Bay. Once we obtained identification photos we left the whale however it was unfortunately spotted by whale watchers and followed for hours after our departure. This whale was identified as Scuttle.

All photos are taken with a 200-600 zoom lens.
