KELȽOLEMEĆEN near TEḴTEḴSEN

May 27, 2026

On May 29, we were investigating salmon abundance near Saturna Island and heard of killer whales nearby, near PEN,ÁW̱EṈ, (Patos Isl.). When our salmon monitoring wrapped up, we headed towards PEN,ÁW̱EṈ, and met up with 7 killer whales being followed by 7 whale watching vessels in Boundary Pass. The water was choppy and it was challenging to get a good look at the whales as they travelled towards TEḴTEḴSEN. We wrapped up our marine mammal regulation compliance monitoring after documenting the nearby vessels and their behaviour, and dropped off one of our team members on TEḴTEḴSEN, hoping the whales would pass close to shore as they often do. When on shore, we were able to get some better photos than in the Pass and have ID’d these whales as T123s and T124A4s (including T124A1A).

All photos are taken with a 200-600 zoom lens.
