T049C at ŚÁ,NES (Turn Point) and ḰENES at TEḴTEḴSEN (East Point)

November 19, 2025

On November 19 our team set out with intention to conduct pinniped haul out surveys in our Southern Gulf Island monitoring Zone. On the way to Blunden Isl. we observed a large dorsal fin in the distance of Boundary Pass. We slowly approached as the solo male killer whale travelled south towards ŚÁ,NES (Turn Point). He was travelling various directions and appeared to be evading out vessel so we left him on his way and continued to conduct haul out surveys. This whale was identified as T049C AKA Neilson.

When we reached the East Point haul out site, we observed two humpbacks fluking in the distance. We made a detour from our pinniped counts to get a few photos of these two humpback whales before continuing our haul out monitoring. The waters were rough and we had difficulty obtaining photographs, these whales appeared to be an adult and a juvenile and have not yet been identified.

All photos are taken with a 200-600 zoom lens.
