Bigg’s killer whales at Brooks Point (QENENIW̱)
March 05, 2026
On March 5th 2026, our team was conducting urchin density measurements off of ILEĆEN (Bedwell Harbour, Pender I) using our BRUV (Baited Remote Underwater Video) setup¸ we attached a 0.5x0.5m quadrat to the base of the BRUV and set our underwater camera to capture the quadrat below. During our camera deployments we received a message that KELȽOLEMEĆEN (killer whales) were right around the corner off Brooks Point (South Pender I). We held off on our final deployments and made our way towards the last reported sighting. Once we spotted the KELȽOLEMEĆEN (killer whales) off Brooks point we spent 15-20 minutes documenting the KELȽOLEMEĆEN. Once we got our photos, we left the location and carried on in Bedwell Harbour with our urchin density monitoring. Once we were done with our urchin monitoring, we went back and looked at our photos to see what killer whales we came across, and it was T124A4, T124A4A, T124A1A, T086A1, T086A1B!
All photos are taken with a 200-600 zoom lens.
